Posted by Hillside Foundations

While it is fun to buy toys for young children, pre-teens and teens are a large population within Hillside, and their needs are the most difficult to fulfill.  Hillside Special Santas can accept only new items. The most popular items are warm clothing items, specifically hoodies, mittens & gloves, warm socks, MP3 players, sports balls, sports watches, teen games, popular teen book series and bath & body items for boys and girls.

This year, we expect to have more than 2,000 youth referred to Hillside Special Santas within the Rochester area alone, with 75% of those youth between the ages of 14 and 21.
Check out our Teen Wish List on, AmazonSmileLogoand if you use smile.amazon.com Amazon will donate 0.5 % of the price of eligible purchases back to Hillside, just search for Hillside Children's Foundation!

Rochester Lancers Support Special Santas

November 12, 2014

L to R: Joey Tavernese, Gary Boughton, Marcelo Moreir, Ryan, Elliot Fauske , Dimico, Robert Acosta, Pedro Franco

Six Rochester Lancers and two Crestwood Children’s Center youth went shopping yesterday at the WalMart in Henrietta to support the Special Santas program. Ryan and Dimico each led a team with three of the players and worked efficiently to fill four shopping carts with gifts for the Special Santas program. The boys followed shopping lists, marked down items as they put them into their carts, noted the price and worked with the Lancers to add everything up so they would stay within their allotted budget. The players were great in helping to offer suggestions and work with Ryan and Dimico to think through choices.  The most popular gift? Soccer balls, of course!  Great job Ryan and Dimico! And a big THANK YOU to the Rochester Lancers for coming out to support the program. The Lancers home opener is 7pm on November 22 at the Blue Cross Arena.

The 2014 Special Santas button has been selected!
After a close vote, the youth at Crestwood chose the button design featuring Felix the reindeer and his little sister Ruby building a snow man!  The buttons will be handed out to donors at Special Santas headquarters while supplies last.  For many donors, the button is a cherished part of the Special Santas tradition. Do you have a collection of buttons? Share them on social media and tag them #SpecialSantas so we can share them with our @SpecialSantas followers!

Hillside Special Santas is the holiday giving program of Hillside Family of Agencies affiliates, that benefits youth and families whom receive residential, community-based, day treatment and or customized services through one of a multitude of programs the agency provides to local communities throughout New York State and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

A message from Felix the Reindeer!

Hi Special Santas!  Have you heard of Flat Stanley? He gets to travel all around the world thanks to the help of his friends. I thought that sounded like fun and thought I would set out on adventures of my own.  Of course my little sister Ruby heard about my plans and wants to tag along.  Can you help us out?  All you need to do is download this picture of us, color it, cut it out and take it with you to someplace special!  Take a photo and email it to ssanta@hillside.com.  Don't forget to include where the photo was taken and your name in the email.  You can also post your photos on Facebook and Twitter with the tag #FlatFelixandRuby.  We will also share your photos on our special Flat Felix and Ruby Facebook album!  Thank you for helping us out! We can't wait to see all of the places we will go!

The Hillside Special Santas Program benefits youth and families served by Crestwood Children’s Center, Hillside Children's Center, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection and Snell Farm Children’s Center. Some youth and their families do not have the resources for gifts at holiday time. The goal of Hillside Special Santas is to try to give each child in the family three gifts.

Hillside Special Santa Headquarters will be open for gift donations beginning Monday, October 28th through December 30th. Check www.hillside.com/specialsantas for more information including locations and most needed gifts.
