"Suffering In Silence: Shedding Light On Mental Illness” to air June 24 on WROC-TV
Special is part of award-winning Today’s Family series produced in partnership with Hillside Family of Agencies
Rochester, NY-June 23, 2008- Hillside Family of Agencies and WROC-TV News 8 Now are once again partnering to produce a documentary television special that sheds light on an issue that impacts the lives of youth and families living in the Great Rochester community.
In collaboration with Hillside, WROC-TV News 8 Now will air the newest Today’s Family special “Suffering in Silence: Shedding a Light on Mental Illness” on June 24 at 8:00 p.m.
The program, which features local families coping with mental illness, addresses a range of topics including the prevalence of mental illness, the use of psychotropic drugs in treating mental illness, advocacy, and the importance of early intervention.
“The statistics on the incidence of mental illness are staggering and the consequences for families and communities can be devastating. We hope this special will not only educate viewers, but help remove the stigma associated with mental health problems,” said Kevin Doran, WROC-TV News 8 Now managing editor and “Suffering in Silence” executive producer.
“Suffering in Silence” is the 10th program in the Today’s Family series, which has been honored with several New York State Broadcasters Association awards, an Emmy, several International Crystal Awards of Excellence, and an Edward R. Murrow award.
