Hillside’s Preventive Generalist Services aim to prevent foster care placement of children and/or to prevent child protective reports. An additional component of the program is reunification of children to their families.

About this Program

Preventive Generalist Services provide in-home services designed to assist families experiencing difficulties in family life. The social worker works collaboratively with the family to assess their needs, create goals and develop a plan with the family to achieve their goals. Specific services provided through this program include but are not limited to:

  • Family and individual counseling (Monroe County only)
  • Parenting education (Monroe County only)
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Anger management
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Self Sufficiency skills
  • Communication skills
  • Crisis Intervention

Services are provided in the family’s home on a weekly basis for approximately 6 to 9 months. The Preventive program is voluntary and of no cost to families and is available to families who reside in Erie or Monroe counties with children from birth to 17 years of age (including those headed by a teen mother under the age of 21).

The reunification component of the Preventive program works to prepare parents and children to be reunited when children have been placed out of the home.
