Hillside Family of Agencies Expands Commitment to Families with New Affiliate
Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility will join 178-Year-Old
Human Services Organization
Rochester, N.Y. — Hillside Family of Agencies is pleased to announce that the organization will expand its commitment to children, youth and families through its new affiliation with Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility. Located in Greene, New York, Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility provides specialized therapeutic treatment for children and youth ages 7 to 18. The affiliation deepens Hillside Family of Agencies’ dedication to providing comprehensive health, education and human services for children and families whose challenges threaten their abilities to reach their full potential. Hillside Family of Agencies currently operates across Western and Central New York and Prince George’s County, Maryland. This will be the organization’s first operational presence in the Binghamton area.
Hillside Family of Agencies is guided by a deeply held belief that healthy children and strong families with opportunities to succeed are the foundation of a thriving community. As one of the largest human services nonprofits in America, Hillside Family of Agencies is uniquely able to help tackle the complex, often systemic issues communities face. Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility’s promise to children and their families “to provide treatment and support to heal and find hope for the future” greatly complements Hillside Family of Agencies’ mission, values and goals. Hillside Family of Agencies offers more than 100 coordinated programs, providing comprehensive, cradle-to-career services — from child welfare, mental health, youth development and family development to juvenile justice, special education, developmental disabilities and safety-net services to more than 12,000 families.
“Affiliations, mergers and acquisitions are increasingly common in the health and human services sector and are truly ideal when each respective agency is financially healthy and well-grounded in mission and practice,” Hillside Family of Agencies president and CEO Dennis Richardson said. “We are pleased to partner with Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility from a position of mutual strength, and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to add the expertise offered by Stillwater’s staff and leadership to our program array.”
“The decision to affiliate was made over a period of many months and was approached by Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility and Hillside Family of Agencies’ leadership teams with a great deal of consideration,” Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility executive director Janee Valenzuela said. “Hillside has long been a leader in child and family human services, and we are proud to join such a committed organization.”
Hillside Family Agencies and Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility have signed a management agreement that becomes effective on Monday, March 30. The affiliation will receive final approval by the Attorney General’s office and the New York State Office of Mental Health. Valenzuela will retain her leadership role, joining Hillside Family of Agencies’ executive team.
Stillwater Residential Treatment Facility serves a 21-county area in the Southern Tier and is located in rural Chenango County. Focusing on a child’s and family’s strengths, Stillwater serves youth who experience emotional and psychiatric challenges requiring intensive treatment. Stillwater provides licensed clinical social work care, psychiatric care, health and wellness, therapeutic recreation, educational services, tasks and skills development, and social and life skills training.
