Hillside’s Parents as Teachers (PAT) program recently earned recognition as a Blue Ribbon Affiliate for fidelity to a rigorous quality process established by the national PAT organization. This recognition affirms that Hillside’s PAT participants are receiving the highest quality services available.
Hillside, which provides these services free of charge to participating Rochester-area parents, is the only PAT affiliate in the greater Rochester region to have earned the Blue Ribbon recognition.
Based on the concept that every parent is their child’s first teacher, PAT uses accepted research on developmental milestones to provide support and guidance to parents as their child grows from prenatal development to kindergarten graduation. Home visits, group connections and child screenings are all active elements in the PAT model, which has been proven to increase parents’ knowledge of early childhood development, provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues, prevent child abuse and neglect, and increase school readiness and academic success.
Blue Ribbon affiliates must demonstrate they are meeting or exceeding the program’s essential requirements, along with at least 75 of 100 quality standards. Hillside’s PAT program met 98 of those standards.
