Colleen Hill, Hillside’s Executive Director of Education, has been named to the Board of Directors for the New York State Coalition of 853 Schools. Board members serve four-year terms.

Formed in 1991, the Coalition is a leading statewide advocacy group for NYS-approved 853 schools, educational institutions which are operated by private agencies and provide day and/or residential programs for students with disabilities.

Hillside operates 853 schools at each of the agency’s four residential campuses (in greater Rochester, Auburn and Bath, NY) as well as the Halpern Education Center in Webster, where students attend school while receiving day treatment services.

Hill has nearly 30 years of experience in education. She joined Hillside in 2012, and served in a variety of educational leadership roles before being named Executive Director in 2022.

“It’s an honor to be a part of the 853 Coalition’s work,” she said. “Like all young people, the students in our schools deserve access to the highest quality academic services—and those services need support.”

Maria Cristalli, Hillside President & CEO, praised Hill’s appointment. “Hillside has a proud history of advocacy for our schools and the students we serve. Colleen brings a vital perspective that will be invaluable as a member of the 853 Coalition’s Board of Directors.”
