Three community leaders are the latest appointees to Hillside’s Board of Governors, and new officers were named to lead the Board as of July 1, 2024. They include:

Richard A. Dougherty, CFP, AIF (pictured, right) is a Certified Financial Planner with over 16 years of experience in developing comprehensive financial plans and investment strategies. He joined Echelon Wealth Advisors as a Partner from 2007 to 2023, and has served as Managing Director of Naviter Wealth since April of last year. Mr. Dougherty holds a bachelor’s degree in management and corporate finance from St. John Fisher University.

Victoria G. Hines, MHA (pictured, left) is a Vice President of UR Medicine’s University of Rochester Medical Center and Chief Operating Officer of the 2,000-member University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group. Ms. Hines previously served as President & CEO of Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester and Monroe County and of Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service, Inc.; and at URMC as Associate Dean for Administration and Finance at the School of Nursing, Program Administrator for the Department of Surgery, and Administrative Director for Ambulatory Care at Strong Memorial Hospital. She is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Ms. Hines earned a master’s degree in health administration from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia.

Karen W. McDermott, PhD, began her service to Hillside in April 2021 as an at-large member of the agency’s Services & Quality Committee. Dr. McDermott has been a clinical psychologist in private practice since September 2005. From 2000 until 2005, she served as Senior Instructor in Psychiatry (Psychology) for the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry. She holds a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, MO; and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA.

Officers of Hillside’s Board of Governors for the 2025 Fiscal Year are James C. Haefner (Chair), Managing Member of Haefner CPA, LLC; Melissa N. Gardner (Vice Chair), Executive Vice President and Chief Population Health Engagement Officer at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield; Christopher B. Eckert, CPA, (Treasurer), Director at FreedMaxick; and Anne L. Komanecky (Secretary), a retired pharmaceutical executive and noted philanthropic consultant. Jill Knittel, President & CEO of JK Executive Strategies, LLC, will serve as Past Chair.
